Day 2 On The Field - Trusting God

This is Vince as guest blogger for today's entry.

I will try to convey today's activities and events in reverse chronological order. Hopefully you will understand as they play out.

As we are watching the USA soccer team beat the Brazil team, I am thinking about the worship service we have just come back from at the church that is being planted here. This is the second service that has been held here and we had a man named Jamar, who is from this neighborhood, come to church tonight. During the service, he invited Christ into his life and became the first person in this new church to be saved. I was moved to tears. Praise God.

Prior to worship, the women of the host church once again provided a meal for us that could feed us, and our families, and the Brazilian soccer team (who I think might lose tonight). Somehow they get the impression that Americans eat a lot. And when we don't eat it all, they think we don't like it. So they make more of something else and hope will we eat that. The food tastes great, there is plenty of it, and we are probably going to have to bring some home with us so as not to offend anyone.

Much of the day was spent in the neighborhoods around this new church. This is an area where many people are working and the kids are at school. Therefore, we often get no response when we come clapping to call people to come out and hear our stories. However, when they do come out, they are very receptive and engaging and listen to our testimonies and the presentation of the Gospel using the Evangecubes (I think Sharon has coined the verb "cubing" someone (the Christian equivalent of "friending"). There are often dogs at each home and trying to has a dialog with someone over the barking of dogs can be a challenge. Maybe we should bring some of the leftover food with us to use as a distraction.

In one of the neighborhoods we met a man who said that he would listen to my testimony. After I spoke, I asked him if he wanted to hear how he could have eternal life with God. He said he did and Ian Heald then presented the Gospel to him and after he heard it, we asked him if he wanted to accept Christ as his savior. He said he did because he knew he was missing God in his life. He prayed the prayer of salvation and we praised God and set up an appointment for a follow up visit for beginning discipleship with the host church. He was also given an invitation to the evening worship service.

I met a man today. His name was....Jamar.

Bom día to all,
Treasure your experience as it is work for our Lord. It is good to get the salvation message out to those who "long to hear the old, old story". Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present a story of sin and grace using the parabel of the prodigal sons to City Team in Chester as Pastor John was on vacation. We can only plant the seeds. The Holy Spirit will water. Yes, some fall on unfertile ground, but that is not our worry. The bible tells us that we are to continue presenting the salvation message because the fields are ripe for harvest.

May many doors - and hearts, be opened to you for God's salvation plan.

God's blessings to all of you and your work,

- David
