Backing Up - Day 4 Saying Goodbye

Our last day on the field is always a busy one and a sad one. It is also a late night and then we need to get up and pack our room and be out of the hotel by 10am so we weren't able to post a story about our last day. So I'm posting this as our Day 4 update. Here's a cool story from that day.

As a trip leader I don't get to spend as much time actually going out and sharing the gospel as the rest of the team does. There are typically a lot of errands to run and paperwork to complete. This trip our host pastor, Pr. Robson was incredibly organized and generous so I was able to get out more often then usual. The last day we ended up working around the neighborhood of our host church. It turned out to be an upper-middle class area with a lot of stores and restaurants... very quaint. As we walked the streets and began clapping at houses (this is instead of knocking on doors) we ran into a woman on the street that turned out to be the aunt of 2 boys that attended the host church. She said her sister (the boys mother) really needed to hear what we were telling people and she pointed out the house. It was getting late and we really only had time to go to one more house so we decided to make this woman's house our last stop. We were greeted by Fernando who I had met on Sunday at the church. He went and got his mom and introduced us and then went back to work in his room. We spent about 20 minutes sharing the gospel and my testimony with her. In the middle of it her sister who we met on the street joined us in the middle of our gospel presentation. As we approached the point of asking if she would like to accept God's free gift of eternal life by asking Jesus into her life I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. The hair on my arms stood up as this woman whose son worked with us all week gave her life to Jesus. What an incredible way to end our week!

Our celebration service on Thursday night was a wonderful celebration of all that God had done this week. We worshipped, celebrated and prayed for each other. It was both joyous and sad as we said goodbye to many of our new friends. At the end of these celebration we hand over all of the slips with the names and contact information of all of the people that had made a profession of faith. I can honestly say that I have never felt more confident handing these slips over to our brothers and sisters at Igreja Cristo Evangelica do Jargim Maringa. They are truely committed to turning these new believers into committed disciples. That is what it is all about!

Pastor Robson and his wife Juliet. Wonderful people!

Praying for Pastor Robson and the follow up effort for new believers

We handed out a lot of eternity bracelets - Yellow - Heaven, Black - Sin, Red - Christ's blood, White - Forgiveness of our sins, Green - Our new life in Christ
